Liaden Wiki

Jen Sin yos'Phelium is of Clan Korval, when they resided at Jelaza Kazone on planet Liad. He currently resides at Tinsori Light as Light Keeper / Stationmaster, and is well suited for the responsibilities.[1]

He is first mentioned in Scout's Progress and first appears in The Space at Tinsori Light, followed by Neogenesis and Salvage Right.

Descriptions[]

Dangerous, self-assured, calm, wry, good humored, dutiful, protective, long-suffering, responsible, observant, intelligent.. .a Scout. He wore a silver ring in his left ear [2]

“a pilot at the height of his powers, slim as a stiletto and every bit as sharp, wearing well-used, well-kept leathers. He had the clan face, as she did herself, but thinner—stern. His hair was very dark and cropped close. Clarence would say that he looked a likely lad to have on your side in a brawl.”[3]

Clan Wars[]

The best Korval pilot of his generation, he was ordered home from the Liaden Scouts by his delm in SY 1196 (see Timeline) to serve the necessities of his clan during the clan wars two centuries ago, and in that service he was lost, along with his ship Lantis.[4] (see The Clans)

“I was sent to Delium, to deliver a packet. This would be during the time that Clan Sinan imagined itself the sole owner of the sector, and all the trade routes, with Rinork working their mischief along two lines at once, looking as always for the best advantage to themselves. And here was Clan Vaazemir, Delium’s premier clan, strenuously disputing Sinan’s claims and excesses, caught in the web of Rinork’s mischief, and what should they do but call upon their old ally, Korval?. . .——There was treachery.” [5]

Birth & Death[]

Jen Sin was born in Standard Year 1155 — almost 240 standards ago, and died in 1196. He is still in the prime of life, near nuff to age 41. Kinda sorta. Jen Sin has died more times than he can recall.

“Jen Sin yos’Phelium had been only days short of his forty-first Name Day when he went missing during a courier run after sending a coded message warning his clan to stay clear of the space at Tinsori Light. The delm had waited the traditional twelve years before writing as a fact in Korval’s records that Jen Sin was dead, another victim of the “unsettled times,” that came into history as “the clan wars.” [6]

His ships[]

  • his personal courier, Lantis
  • his bunk on Scout Survey Ship Aazella[7]
